The group Stray Kids achieved “five consecutive No. 1 rankings” since their debut on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with their new mini album “ATE.” It is the first record by a group in the world.
According to a notice released by Billboard on the 28th (local time), Stray Kids’ new album “ATE,” released on July 19th, topped Billboard’s main chart “Billboards 200” on August 3 with 232,000 album units in the U.S. in the first week of its release. As a result, Stray Kids topped the chart with “ODDINARY” in March 2022 at the same time as it entered the chart for the first time, followed by “MAXIDENT” in October, “★★★★★ (5-STAR)” in June 2023, and “樂-STAR” in November, followed by “Billboards 200” in five consecutive albums.
Stray Kids, who proved their global popularity by appearing at the top of Billboard 200 in March 2022, has been writing a new history of K-pop, with all of their albums released since then topping the charts. After reaching the top of the chart at the same time as its debut, it became the first group in Billboard’s history to achieve “five consecutive No. 1s” and the second artist in the world after the famous American rapper DMX. With this, Stray Kids has achieved its grand aspiration to write “the first by a global group” and “chew up the global music market” with “ATE.”
The 232,000 album units in the first week of their release, achieved with “ATE,” are the highest number of K-pop albums this year and the sixth among albums released in 2024. The number of albums sold is 218,000, which is also the highest among K-pop albums this year and the second-highest sales by Taylor Swift based on all albums released worldwide in 2024. Stray Kids also topped the Billboard’s latest chart’s “Top Album Sales” category on Aug. 3.
Stray Kids’ new album “ATE” was completed with the pride of the group, and the title song “Chk Chk Boom” expressed the confidence to clearly aim for the desired goal throughout the song. The music source entered the U.K.’s official chart’s latest “Official Singles Chart Top 100,” which is considered one of the world’s top three music charts, at its highest ranking of 30, and the album ranked 62nd in the “Official Album Chart Top 100.” In addition, Shinbo stood out on the global charts by topping the latest album charts pre-released by the French Music Association (SNEP) on the 26th, ranking second in the German official charts (offizielle deutsche charts (07.26~08.01) and seventh in the Dutch album top 100 chart (July 27).
Stray Kids, which has dominated the global fan sentiment, will be the headliner at the Lollapalooza Chicago in Chicago on August 2nd to mark the end of the summer night festival.
